About the Festival

History & Mission

WCS combines the power of its zoos and an aquarium in New York City and a Global Conservation Program in more than 50 countries to achieve its mission to save wildlife and wild places. WCS runs the world's largest conservation field program, protecting more than 50 percent of Earth's known biodiversity; in partnership with governments, Indigenous People, Local Communities, and the private sector. Its four zoos and aquarium (the Bronx Zoo, Central Park Zoo, Queens Zoo, Prospect Park Zoo, and the New York Aquarium) welcome more than 3.5 million visitors each year, inspiring generations to care for nature. We were proud to serve as a founding partner of the New York WILD Film Festival, connecting people to nature through impactful storytelling. Now, we’re excited to introduce REEL WILD™ NEW YORK, a festival showcasing films that share our commitment to conservation.

Where Image Meets Impact

At WCS, we believe that film can be more than entertainment – it can be a catalyst for change. With this year’s curated screenings, and our return to a juried festival in 2026, REEL WILD™ NEW YORK will bring compelling wildlife stories to New York City, inspiring action, and achieving real and measurable conservation impact.

Turtle Walker - Satish Bhaskar

“Rising temperatures threaten sea turtles by skewing hatchling sex ratios, as warmer sands produce more females, risking future population balance. Additionally, rising sea levels and stronger storms erode nesting beaches, endangering eggs and reducing hatchling survival. Protecting nesting sites and addressing climate change are vital for their survival.”
