Dr. Haqiq Rahmani
Conservation Ecologist
Dr. Haqiq Rahmani is a Conservation Ecologist for Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), where he leads the NASA funded Act Green project, a near-real-time mapping and monitoring system for rewilding efforts. Previously he served Conservation X Lab on the Extinction Solutions Index (ESI) where his role as a Data & GIS Specialist, was to integrate spatial work at WCS into the ESI research design as a part of their collaborative partnership. Over the past 18 years, Haqiq used his GIS, remote sensing and conservation science skills to work at universities, non-profit organizations, and UN agencies to develop resilient, community-centered strategies for environmental conservation. He worked for WCS Afghanistan as their Geospatial lead between 2006 and 2016 before pursuing his graduate studies. During this time at WCS Afghanistan, he collaborated with the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock and the National Environmental Protection Agency on projects that were key to the development of Afghanistan's national protected area system plan as well as the creation of the first two national parks in the country. Haqiq holds a PhD degree from the Department of Wildlife Ecology and Conservation at the University of Florida and a masters in Geographic Information Science from the school of Geography at the University of Leeds in the UK.
