The Americas
From the Arctic to Tierra del Fuego, WCS has played a unique role in conservation in the western hemisphere for more than a century. We have led pioneering field studies of iconic species such as jaguars, wolverines, whales, and penguins, and saved bison from extinction by restocking the Western Plains with animals bred at the Bronx Zoo. Encompassing national parks, indigenous territories, productive fisheries, World Heritage sites, migratory corridors, peatlands, and rangelands, the world’s largest roadless natural habitats and more, our six priority regions here are not only vital to the Americas’ biodiversity but to its people and economies as well.
